parking for free

Yes, you can park for free nearby and cycle to the entrance, which is a popular strategy to avoid the high half-term parking fees.

Recommended Free Parking Locations:

  • **Potterne Way Sports Pitches (Ringwood):**Frequently cited by cyclists as the best free option. It is located just off the A338, approximately 1.5 to 2 miles from the park entrance. You can cycle from here via quiet residential roads or connect to the Castleman Trailway

  • Ashley Heath / St. Leonards: There are unrestricted residential streets and laybys along Horton Road and Christchurch Road(A338) outside the park’s paid barrier zone.  Be sure to check for any “No Waiting” restrictions or yellow lines.

  • Castleman Trailway Access: If you can park anywhere along the Castleman Trailway (a disused railway line turned cycle path) that connects to the park, you can cycle directly into Moors Valley.  The trail connects to Ringwood town centre where street parking may be available (check time limits).

The Cycle Route:

  • The park is directly accessible via the Castleman Trailway, a flat, traffic-free gravel path perfect for families.

  • From Ringwood town centre (where you might find free street parking after certain hours or in specific lots), it is a scenic 3-mile ride along the trail directly to the Visitor Centre
